Sales of detached homes last month reached 552, a 7% increase from the 516 detached sales recorded in September 2024. The total number of properties currently listed for sale on the Multiple Listing Service in Metro Vancouver is 17,079. This is up 14.4% compared to the same time last year and 36.1% above the 10-year seasonal average.
Last month, the Bank of Canada lowered its key interest rate by a quarter-point to 2.5%. This is welcome news for home sellers as lower interest rates encourage prospective buyers to spend and also elevate home sales and prices. With lower rates, more people qualify for loans and mortgage-holders receive relief on their borrowing costs. This latest drop is the first cut since March and makes this current rate the lowest in three years.
