RoseAnne Archibald

Consultant, First Nations Partnerships

RoseAnne Archibald is an Ininiwuk (Cree) multi-disciplinary artist. After a trailblazing 34-year career in politics, she now focuses on her consulting practice and artistic pursuits, which include: mixed-media art, photography, music, digital filmmaking and theatre. She has workshopped and directed a number of short plays including Judith Thompson’s “Off the 40!”. She also co-wrote, produced and directed a production titled “There is no THIS!” at the 1998 Ottawa Fringe Festival. RoseAnne also produced/directed eleven short films and one music video with screenings in North America, including: ImagineNATIVE, Sin Fronteras, Dreamspeaker and the Alternator Gallery. In January 2010, the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) began to broadcast her short film Nishnawbe Aski Police Service: A Sacred Calling. As well, her co-production with the NAN Decade for Youth Council, titled The Four Directions Project won ‘best experimental senior youth’ award at the Cowichan Valley International Film Festival. On top of her busy schedule, she is writing a book about her life in First Nations politics.

RoseAnne was a ground-breaking leader at every level of First Nation politics, as the first woman elected:

• Chief of Taykwa Tagamou Nation,
• Deputy Grand Chief for Nishnawbe Aski Nation,
• Grand Chief at the Mushkegowuk Council,
• Ontario Regional Chief leading the Chiefs of Ontario, and
• National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.

Her political journey also made history for young women when she was elected as the youngest Chief, Deputy Grand Chief, and Grand Chief.

RoseAnne holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre Arts and was the first member of her community to complete a master’s degree in Humanities. She was awarded the prestigious Canada 125 Medal and the King Charles III’s Coronation Medal for having made a significant contribution to Canada through her leadership. Additionally, she was named to several notable lists including Maclean’s annual Power List (2022) and the Top 25 Women of Influence®.
